And I Thought I Worked Alot!

I have been accused of working 70 hours a week, which, of course, I dont (Denial….is that the first sign of a Workaholic?) But the Forbes Workaholic article made me realize I am not in that category for a few reasons:

  1. I’ve never missed birthdays, anniversaries, holidays or graduations (Even made it to my daughter’s college graduation in Kzoo, MI and my son’s highschool graduation in Ypsilanti, MI ON THE SAME DAY)
  2. I dont wake up at 4:00!
  3. I’ve never learned a language while riding on an elliptical to take my mind off of work. That is what iPods are for.

But what I can say is that I do consider work my venue for feeling productive. I find that it gives me a means for reaching out and helping others. And, unfortunately, it has been my own identity so as not to live vicariously through my children’s successes. Now that I’m an empty nester, I could have more hobbies, get out and exercise more and read one of many books on my nightstand. But I know I will always love the thrill of learning more about what makes businesses a success and how technology streamlines that road to success.

My latest app discovery that seems to be everywhere, which is a surefire way to streamline, is called Evernote. I can download it to my Droid, iPad, computer, iPhone and access it online. It has an elephant for a logo so that we will never forget our tasks at hand, the great articles and their websites, a document that goes with meeting notes and apps found in the “Trunk Store”. I sure want to hear how everyone else is using it, but to me, its like Google Tasks, Dropbox and a server all in one. You can create a notebook, notes in the notebook, links and docs and tags in the notes and share all of this with another person who has been invited to your realm.
