Greetings to my readers. I just wanted to give you an update on how well our @ChristChurch Reading Camp went and I cannot tell you how it amazes me that we have so many hardworking and giving hands helping out. For those of you who dont know, Christ Church Detroit hosts a neighboring organization called Franklin Wright Settlement to join us for a week-long summer camp experience. Awhile back, our church went through a process of discovering what our outreach project would be based on the talents and willingness of our members. We have had five years of camp, all with different themes to expose the children to different food, cultures, geography, art, and of course, books. This year, we had a truly fun theme with England as our cultural experience and added a little Spy Campers twist. We had some amazing food made by some amazing people. We had Shepherds Pie, Coronation Chicken (yes, it was served for lunch the day Queen Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England), Ploughman’s Lunch (made famous in the USA) and Fish and Chips.
We learned about famous English sites, such as Big Ben, the Thames River and the Tower Bridge. We read Nate the Great and Alex Ryder’s Stormbreakers and even watched the movies. We had fantastic story tellers come in and we even had a juggler. But most of all, we had a lot of smiling campers, making their telescopes and using a decoder circle to decipher spy secret messages.
I’m not sure what next year’s camp theme will be, but I am sure that we will again have eager campers from Franklin Wright Settlement (Detroit, MI) and our beloved teachers, assistants and helping hands back and making sure that one and all have a great time. It sure makes me proud to be a member of my church. Thank you one and all!
Wonderful testament to how our Christ Church family could come together with the community and provide fellowship and fun. It was a great week – good job in organizing this Chrissie!

I couldn’t have done it without all of the volunteers, including YOU 🙂
