Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up with strings. These are a few of my favorite things! (circa 1960s from the musical The Sound of Music)
The Sound of Music brought a certain magic to my life. To me, it was the story of a family who faced the hardships, the joys and the changes of life with strength and unity. Anyone in business can relate to those swings in the life-cycle of a company. So, wouldn’t it be loverly (ooops, that is from another musical) if we all have some technological tools to climb every mountain with ease? Here are three tools that make my virtual workers glad that I embrace new technology:
In the absence of a Microsoft Exchange server, it was love at first sight with Google Mail, Google Calendar and Google Tasks. Melissa and I are able to communicate and organize with these blockbuster tools. A MUST for a small group setting.
I have recommended YouSendIt to so many people that I have lost count. Did you know that when you send files through email, they touch and stick to servers all over the world? YouSendIt has the unique ability to password protect files, encrypt files, give expiration dates to files and allows users to send very large files no matter what their email server limitations present. An email is sent with a link to downloading the file from an encrypted server. So easy, anyone can adopt this tool!
Last, but not least, Dropbox is a file transfer site that requires no emails. It can be downloaded to your desktop OR iPad and looks and feels like My Documents, but it synchronizes with my account on www.dropbox.com. Wherever I go, my documents are with me. I can even save files to Dropbox and open them on my iPad through QuickOffice!
Ahhhh, but that is another blog. And that one will really be music to your ears!!!
