Starting a Business: Now What?

How

I’m in the business of making people happy and giving them piece of mind. How do I do that? I show my customers the love. Love means many things to many people, but my idea of giving customer love comes in these types of forms:

Fixing something that was bugging the hell out of them so that they can work in a barrier free accounting environment.

Responding quickly to them, like they are the only person on the planet.

Confirming that they are on the right track when they try to do something on their own. It’s a feel good moment.

Taking away the guesswork of how to operate by framing a process that makes sense to them because they helped architect it.

Why

That’s HOW I do it. Why do I do it? First and foremost, I had an epiphany when I first experienced the power of accounting software and I wanted everyone blessed with this revolutionary idea. I’m also happiest when helping others. I like working in accounting software and I want them to like it too. Seeing someone empowered and confident when I give guidance is a benefit. Sharing my knowledge to enhance their business is what I’m all about.

What

What do I do? Anything I can to meet the needs of my client. Can anyone be my client since I have a quest for such a deep and giving relationship? No. We are a good fit. I’ll know it when I see it. My business model revolves around the following (In my order of importance): Teaching, Assisting, Fixing, Performing accounting. I have many methodologies, but they all revolve around getting the task at hand completed so my customer doesn’t have to be distracted from their business.

That’s me, what about you? Why do you want to start a business? Is it a skill set you are following? Did you have a calling? Did your best friend rope you into it? (UGHHH, poor you!) Did you find something that you just had to expand on? Is it your passion or did you develop your gifts to make the best service or product around?

There is a great TedTalk* that Simon Sinek presented that poses the question “Why?” Most people have heard of Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla, Berkshire Hathaway, Technology In A Box (Ooops, that’s me), but what made these businesses great? Or WHO made them great businesses? Simon believes that these companies are giants because they follow the rule of starting with Why first. And that “People don’t buy what you do/make, they buy WHY you do it.” Go figure that out first.

And what are you going to call your business? That is our next question to ponder.
