What’s New: QuickBooks 2016 and QuickBooks Enterprise 16.0

I am a self-admitting software junky. So when August rolls around, I cant help but wiggle a bit knowing that the new versions of QuickBooks are coming out. Now, this isn’t like some phone company (to be unnamed) who puts out a new model every 6 months and everyone is scratching their head wondering what is different. OH NO, NOT ANOTHER NEW PHONE PRODUCT, we screech. No, Intuit has some really cool features for this run. Not all QuickBooks versions have all of the updates, but once you learn which version provides what feature, then you can decide on what is the right software for your practice.

Here are the features by product with some verbiage as to what the new change brings:

All 2016 QuickBooks Products (Pro, Premier, Accountant and Enterprise)

  • Bill Tracker – Similar to the Income Tracker, this dashboard displays purchase orders, outstanding bills, item receipts and other related information
  • Bulk Clear Send Forms – I know it doesn’t sound sexy to you, but anyone who has mistakenly left the “Email Later” checked has a ton of outgoing forms in the queue so this feature automatically un-checks the email option. What I’m REALLY excited about is the soon-to-be option of Bulk Clear To Print.  You’ll hear me whooping it up when it comes.
  • Auto Copy Ship-to Address – It never made sense to me why this hasn’t always been an option, but better late than never. When there is a Ship-to address noted on the Sales order or Estimate and you choose to create a Purchase Order for the Items requested, the Ship-to address will be populated in the Purchase Order. Trust me, it’s very cool.
  • This Fiscal Year-to-Last Month report filter – Its the little things in life, right? Normally, when you run a Fiscal Year to Date, it gives you todays date, even though the books aren’t logistically reconciled mid-month. So this report takes into account that the hard stop for year-to-date really is for the last day of the previous month. I’m in love <3
  • Rebuild Data and Verify Data Updated – If you don’t know what this means and you are running QuickBooks, RUN, not walk, to any device and email me to come in and safeguard your data. For those of you who do, how epic is this that when we are verifying our datafile for errors, the report is available and lets us know what can/cannot be fixed.
  • Custom Field Filtering on Item Reports – Another “where have you been all of my life” feature. I love custom fields and now I can sort, filter and report on them when running my Item Reports (and “Item” in QuickBooks means the products and services that you sell)
  • Label Printer Support – You can now print on a “Zebra” printer, which runs on a single continuous roll of labels, rather than just labels on a page. I hear the retail clients cheering already.
  • QuickBooks Statement Writer – The QuickBooks 2016 installation program will now patch the computer it is installed on so users with Microsoft 2013 can be used without issues. (This is not verified by the author, but if it works then Hallelujah)

QuickBooks Enterprise 16.0

  • Column sorting on Payment Screen – When you are on the Receive Payment screen, you are able to click the header and sort the information by column.

2016 QuickBooks Accountant Edition

  • Batch Delete Transactions – Here is a feature that makes everyone want to have QuickBooks Accountant Edition. I have so many franchises that have a third party software that may end up bring over duplicate information in batches. This tool lets you delete or void groups of data in one place. WOWSAH

So, worth the wiggling, I’d say. However, Technology In A Box believes in disqualifying QuickBooks if you are too big for it’s world or if there are features and functionality that are a must for your company.
